Promenade II – St. Peter-Ording

Designed by Uniola

Location: Germany — Type: Hospitality — Built: 2024

The holiday and recreation resort of Sankt Peter-Ording is getting an extended nature and culture promenade. The open space concept was developed in conjunction with the construction of the new family house and reflects the influences of the surrounding nature in its form and colors.

The second phase of construction of the promenade in Sankt Peter-Ording takes up the theme of “fitness and experiencing nature.” We drew inspiration from the genius loci for the shapes and color selection of the green corridor. In addition to the main paths, the existing trails and watercourses in the salt marshes form the access system along the promenade. The result is a sequence of density and expanse, of open meadows and wooded areas with intensive and extensive uses. Themes related to sports and fitness for young and old are integrated along the paths or take place on the meadows. The existing vegetation is largely preserved and developed in specific areas.

Small installations, seating areas, and play and recreation facilities invite visitors to explore and learn. A footbridge with platforms is carefully integrated into the existing natural biotope, allowing visitors to gain a closer insight into the vegetation structures. Individual viewing platforms and installations are provided at the approaches to the dike to allow sweeping views across the open salt marshes. The spectacular end point of the new section of the Sankt Peter-Ording promenade is a large playhouse, the Erlebnis-Hus, built in timber construction, which with its stilts refers to the traditional beach house typology. In the area of the semi-transparent building, a diverse open space has been created with a mix of sports and play facilities, which are integrated into the orthogonal stilt system and use it as a suspension and static connection.
