Lush, vibrant greenery dominates the residential courtyard. The communal outdoor space thus becomes a green oasis that invites residents to linger, explore, and harvest.
A dense jungle of various useful plants covers the grounds, interspersed with water-permeable paths that create gentle trails through the lush greenery. The fall protection material of the playground equipment—made from natural materials—blends seamlessly into the mulch of the adjacent plantings, creating a harmonious connection between the play and garden areas.
Only plants that are edible grow throughout the garden: either their fruits, leaves, flowers, or even the entire plant. Fruit trees such as apple and nut trees provide shade, while rhubarb, wild berries, bush beans, sage, currants, zucchini, and herbs such as mint, borage, ground elder, and nasturtium fill the garden with a variety of aromas and colors. Marigolds also add splashes of color and are edible at the same time.
Classic lawns have been deliberately avoided to maximize the garden’s utility and experiential quality.
The appearance of the garden will evolve over time depending on the intensity of use and care. The result is a living, constantly changing garden that benefits both the community and nature.
