Beautiful Basics: The Appeal of Essential Site Furnishing Simplicity

presented by Landscape Forms

As the demand for flexible, functional, beautifully designed public spaces continues to grow, Basic by Urbidermis offers a refreshingly refined solution. Available in North America exclusively through Landscape Forms, the new line of outdoor benches and tables distills site furnishing design down to its most fundamental elements — without sacrificing comfort, durability or sophisticated style.

Created by esteemed Barcelona-based father-and-son design team Miguel and Gonzalo Milá, Basic embraces thoughtful minimalism in function and form. Its design reflects a rational economy of materials, a belief that great design doesn’t require more — it requires better thinking. With its clean, softly industrial aesthetic, Basic brings adaptability with subtle sophistication to places like urban plazas, campuses, courtyards and hospitality destinations alike.

Basic benches and tables are crafted entirely from cast and extruded aluminum, resulting in pieces that are exceptionally lightweight yet robust. This all-aluminum, mono-material construction makes Basic easy to transport, effortless to install, simple to rearrange and highly resilient in the face of the elements.

Available in backed and backless styles, the Basic bench is composed of softly rounded extruded aluminum slats firmly affixed by two symmetrical die-cast aluminum support structures. The generously proportioned table shares the same material intelligence and graceful restraint, designed to bring people together — whether for work, dining or social connection.

The line is efficient by design, from its thoughtful flat-pack shipping and minimal assembly fasteners, to its durable Pangard II® polyester powdercoat finish that provides long-term protection with low maintenance. From a sustainability perspective, Basic offers a clear circular advantage: Its aluminum construction utilizes pre- and post-consumer recycled material, and its mono-material makeup simplifies 100% recyclability at the end of a long, durable lifespan.

“Basic occupies a really useful in-between space in our portfolio,” says Ryan Heiser, Landscape Forms Director of Design. “It’s robust enough for demanding environments but significantly lighter and more adaptable than traditional site furnishings — ideal for projects that need design versatility, ease of handling and visual simplicity.”

With Basic, the emphasis isn’t on flashy forms or ornamental details. It’s on creating more from less — more possibility, more durability, more design clarity — from fewer materials and simpler manufacturing processes. It’s a system that speaks softly but clearly to a new paradigm of outdoor placemaking, one that values restraint, durability and timeless appeal. For landscape architects designing in an era of sustainability, efficiency, adaptability and understated elegance, Basic delivers the essentials — beautifully.
