LAND Arkitektur was founded in 2008 in Stockholm. We are trained landscape architects with over 20 years of experience in the field. Our work spans multiple scales, ranging from extensive landscape projects and urban planning to small scale designs. We are a fairly small studio with a great commitment.
LAND works with idea-based architecture rooted in our studio’s design methodology. Strong ideas are the backbone in each of our projects. We strive to enhance the qualities that make every project unique. In our work, we combine a high artistic standard with technically viable and secure solutions.
Understanding the site is fundamental to landscape architecture, and at the core of our work. By identifying site values, we are provided with principles that enable the creation of sustainable projects and a relevant architecture. Site investigations are recurring in our processes. Initial investigations focus on understanding and mapping out existing qualities, and as the project progresses, work on-site shifts to experiments and testing of ideas by using a range of methods, including sketch work and 1:1 mock-ups. Regular re-visits to former project sites, allow us to reflect on and learn from our built work and its usage.
In the studio we come together for joint, hour-long concept sketches for every project. This hour-sketch serves to generate ideas, approach issues from various angles and engage the entire office in the project. More than anything, this approach functions as a knowledge exchange that has proved to both save time and provide good ideas.
It is crucial for LAND to work as close as possible to the local citizens; the current and future users of the sites we plan. We strive to continuously develop our methods in this field, where the key is to create a synergy between us – the architects, our clients and the users. We want our social commitment to be evident in the finished result.
MANIFEST
1| LAND employs idea-driven architecture. Clear ideas shape each project and influences every stage in the process and the finished design.
2| Paramount to LAND’s design practice is thorough analysis and understanding of the site’s complex prerequisites.
3| LAND aspires to create spaces that are destinations in themselves, fostering diverse activities and that attract various individuals. LAND believes that a good public space is often, but not always, achieved when the site is able to function with its own independence.
4| In every commission LAND wants to highlight those little extras, what makes each project unique. It could involve refining an idea in the design or implementing an interesting process in collaboration with a client.
5| LAND is a flat organization where the dynamics within the studio, joint timetables and feedbacks within each project is our way of maintaining a high quality and generating good ideas for our clients.
6| LAND aims to always work close to the local citizens, ensuring that ideas are shaped in dialogue with users.
7| Curiosity is a key element for LAND. A curiosity to explore ideas, a curiosity towards new challenges and to work with new projects and clients in diverse contexts and formations.
8| LAND aims to erase boundaries between disciplines, working to create integrated connections and solutions between landscape and architecture.
9| For LAND, open processes and a good dialogue with the client are of high priority. Architecture is a team effort where a wide range of disciplines contribute with their knowledge.
