Nestled in the heart of the Brabant landscape lies Landpark Assisië, a unique location where Prisma passionately provides care for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Over the past years, Landpark Assisië has undergone a transformation from a traditional care institution into an integrated space for living, working, recreation, nature, landscape, and care. The Master Plan Landpark Assisië, developed by MTD Landscape Architects, forms the foundation of this remarkable transition.

Thanks to the Dry Sand Grounds subsidy program from Waterschap De Dommel, an area of Landpark Assisië has been repurposed into a nature park. In 2018, MTD Landscape Architects was commissioned to create a vision and design for this nature park.

Climate adaptation and water retention play a central role in the park’s design. Water is essential for the atmosphere, plant growth, and combating the drying of sandy soils. Previously, rainwater was drained directly through the sewer system, but it is now temporarily stored to gradually infiltrate the ground. This ensures that water remains in the area, benefiting the natural environment during dry periods. The planting and biodiversity approach follows a vision of letting nature take its course, supported by an extensive management plan.

The nature park offers ample walking opportunities for both internal users, such as Prisma’s clients, and external visitors, thanks to its connection to the Natura 2000 area De Leemkuilen. An adventurous boardwalk through the water retention area enhances the experience of the water system. During wet periods, the boardwalk is surrounded by a large water feature, while in dry times, it is framed by wild grasses and reeds.

The park also features an open-air theater and a unique artwork called the Groundwater Bank, designed by Observatorium. The Groundwater Bank visualizes changes in groundwater levels throughout the year. Together with the open-air theater, the park provides an excellent venue for cultural and educational purposes.

Landpark Assisië is a shining example of how care, nature, and recreation can be seamlessly integrated into a sustainable landscape.
