bbz landschaftsarchitekten: On the northern edge of the Märkisches Viertel neighbourhood in Berlin – the first large new housing estate in West Berlin at the beginning of the 1970s – a new residential building with 84 rental flats was built. By demolishing the existing large multi-storey car park, areas could be unsealed and quality open space created.
The asymmetrical access route is also a fire service bypass. Made of in-situ concrete with a broom finish, it is paved at the edges with permeable grass paving and a high proportion of grass joints.
Play and planting areas alternate along the path: Play equipment with wooden seesaw animals, swings and sand play as well as planting with native shrubs and perennials as bee pastures.
