Completed in 2023, Duke Energy Plaza is a striking new addition to Uptown Charlotte, developed by Childress Klein and designed by architects from tvsdesign. As the headquarters for more than 4,000 Duke Energy employees, the LEED Gold-certified tower reflects a commitment to sustainable design, workplace innovation, and urban connectivity. While its bold architectural presence helps define the city’s skyline, its impact to the street-level creates a dynamic, people-centered space.
Publicly accessible ground-floor retail and thoughtfully curated site elements create an inviting streetscape. Landscape architecture firm HGOR led the site design, with CBI Workspace Solutions contributing additional furniture selections. Together, these elements blend work, leisure, and social interaction, making the space both functional and welcoming.
Maglin’s site furniture plays an important role at street level. Vibrant yellow Kontur Chairs and FORO Tables create a striking focal point at the entrance, infusing the space with energy. These flexible seating areas invite casual meetings, outdoor work sessions, and quiet moments of pause. A nearby water feature soothingly helps dim the sounds of city traffic and provides natural cooling on warm days. Shade trees and flower beds further soften the built environment and contribute to a cooler, more hospitable environment.
Maglin’s Iconic Bike Racks support cycling infrastructure and offer a sleek complement to the site’s modern aesthetic, promoting active transportation within Charlotte’s evolving urban core. Conveniently located Lexicon dual-stream waste and recycling containers uphold the clean, streamlined atmosphere while ensuring responsible waste management.
Duke Energy Plaza demonstrates how contemporary architecture and placemaking can work together to enhance the city experience at every level. By prioritizing human-centered functionality and design-forward furnishings, the street level at Duke Energy Plaza becomes more than pass-through; it becomes a destination.
