FOJAB: Teaterparken is one of the most centrally located parks in Landskrona. The park features a classic design with rows of trees along its edges, gently curved walkways, and a fountain. The theatre is situated in the northwestern part of the park. The site was once part of the historic defense complex surrounding the castle, but today, only a few traces of that history remain.
In addition to a newly built and very popular playground, the park had previously seen relatively few visitors and was perceived by many as unsafe. The site also suffered from flooding during heavy rainfall. FOJAB was tasked with taking a holistic approach to the park – modernizing it and making it more attractive to the citizens of Landskrona.
FOJAB proposed clarifying the spatial character of different areas within the park to provide a wider range of experiences. Existing elements were enhanced, and new attractions were introduced to appeal to as many target groups as possible. This resulted in the creation of distinct areas: the Boule Pitch by the Theatre, the Green Open Space, the Horticultural Corner, and the Jungle.
Overall, the renovation aimed to create a more vibrant park with a clear focus on climate initiatives and improving the sense of safety. Hedges now frame the park, and clearly defined entrances connect it to the surrounding urban structure. New lighting enhances the sense of security both inside and outside the park. Plant selections were made to attract pollinators and enrich the park’s flora and visual appeal. Stormwater issues caused by heavy rain have been addressed with a thoughtful architectural solution – a centrally located sunken lawn framed by granite terraces. The existing playground in the park’s northeast corner has been expanded with a clear theme that encourages diverse forms of play.
Combined with new seating that offers opportunities for relaxation, the revitalized environment has already drawn significantly more visitors than before. Today the lively atmosphere around the outdoor restaurant seating spreads a positive vibe, with boules games taking place nearby. The large open lawn is used for concerts and events, bringing together residents from across the city during the summer. The expanded jungle-themed playground has become an even bigger attraction and contributes to an active park life throughout the year.
The park received an honorable mention in connection with the city’s Urban Planning Award in 2022.
