Military / Nuclear Sites

Military and nuclear sites are landscapes shaped by defense, secrecy, and catastrophic risk—training grounds, bases, weapons storage, test fields, or contaminated zones. These sites embody the extremes of human power: vast territories withdrawn from public life, engineered for control and destruction. Many have left toxic legacies, radioactive scars, or derelict ruins that will outlast generations. They are landscapes of violence, but also of eerie stillness and new ecological beginnings. Military and nuclear sites may pose questions of remediation, memory, and reuse. They confront us with the ethical weight of designing in places marked by secrecy, trauma, and nonhuman timescales of contamination.
